Innovative Solution Uses Infowave and IBM Technology to Sense and Respond to Changes in the Field, In Real-Time

DENVER, CO, October 11, 2004 -- IBM today unveiled a new asset monitoring and field service solution designed to help petroleum industry customers improve overall operational performance, enhance employee productivity and safety, and decrease capital expenditures through preventive and predictive -- rather than reactive -- maintenance.  The announcement was made at the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) International Exposition and Annual Meeting here at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

The optimized asset monitoring and field service offering is comprised of IBM middleware, hardware, services and key application content and devices from IBM Business Partners. The solution provides companies with the capability to conduct end-to-end remote monitoring of petroleum industry assets, and provides reporting, alerts and predictive maintenance from monitored machine data to hand held devices for the field maintenance worker.  With tools for predicting when equipment will fail, the solution is aimed at helping field technicians more rapidly complete maintenance tasks and exchange information between the field and central offices, thereby reducing a petroleum company's operational costs.

The new solution consists of Infowave's Telispark Mobile Enterprise software running on IBM WebSphere and DB2 database software, which offers customers a secure, and scalable environment for the deployment of ERP, Enterprise Asset Management, Warehousing, and Customer Service applications. Mobile field technicians using WebSphere Everyplace Connection manager software, (WECM) secure seamless roaming software, can enjoy secure, high speed wireless access to information roaming across a variety of networks, without interrupting web connections or losing an existing session.

ChevronTexaco Pipeline Company to Arm Field Force with Wireless Remote Monitoring Solution

Additionally, the company announced ChevronTexaco Pipeline Company will use the solution to enable its remote pipeline technicians to complete maintenance tasks and exchange data between the field and central offices

Field technicians monitoring pipelines will exchange information with central offices in real time using Intel Centrino mobile technology-based Panasonic Toughbook CF29 Laptops running Infowave Telispark Mobile Enterprise applications and IBM's WebSphere Everyplace Connection Manager network roaming software. Information transmitted to a field service technician's service vehicle can be exchanged over satellite communications and a variety of carrier networks before being integrated with IBM middleware and a billing application in a central office.

The new solution is aimed at helping remote employees to report temperatures and monitor the flow of liquids through its vast pipelines, schedule and report maintenance problems, comply with regulatory-driven inspections, and automates the billing of usage fees.
