Annual MESA International conference draws strong attendance and industry

     praise

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 11 -A record number of attendees converged over a three-day period to cast light on one of the hottest topics in manufacturing today: real-time synchronization of Plant Operations to Enterprise (P2E) Systems. Tangible buzz permeated this year's conference, which emphasized training, shared experiences and best practices around a topic that obviously resonated with manufacturers, vendors and industry analysts alike. Kevin Roach, MESA's Chairman and President of Rockwell Software, keynote presentation cited the converging factors of globalization, systems maturation, and customer expectations as stimulating market demand for "real-time" manufacturing information in business and planning systems.

A Tuesday morning agenda devoted to the boardroom view of P2E concluded with a rousing presentation by Boston Scientific's Chairman and CEO, James Tobin. Mr. Tobin's refreshingly blunt style took the audience by storm as he described the organizational transformation that helped his company become a market leader in the medical device industry.

Education was a strong by-line this year with ISA and World Batch Forum (WBF) chipping in to host heavily attended "hands-on" S95 and B2MML training sessions. Industry analyst firms Aberdeen, AMR, ARC, Industry Directions, and IDC Manufacturing Perspectives provided a unique opportunity for many attendees to participate in intimate, round table discussions focused on key aspects of P2E. Case-studies were presented with an "enterprise-down" or "plant-up" perspective by a number of international, world-class manufacturers -Saudi Aramco, Whirlpool, and Nestle Purina, to name a few.

Strong content, good pacing and lots of networking opportunities created an upbeat, high energy feel as reflected in the questions, statements, and conversations heard throughout the conference: Gary Mintchell, Editor of Automation World, commented in his web log "So much good information was generated at the MESA Plant2Enterprise Conference that I'll never be able to report it all," Greg Gorbach of the ARC Advisory Group noted. "Without a doubt, this year's MESA conference was a success."
