LONDON, April 5 -Steve Purdham, co-founder and former CEO of SurfControl, has been appointed chairman of Identum. Alan Lamb, outgoing chairman, will remain on the board as non-executive director.
Identum, a Bristol University spin-out, emerged from stealth mode in July 2005 with Private Post, the first product in the world to bring email encryption technology into the mainstream by making it user-friendly enough for every PC user.
Karl Feilder, CEO of Identum, highlighted Steve's global success as a perfect fit for the company. "Steve took SurfControl from a small British operation in 1996 to one of the world's leading internet security companies listed on the LSE with profitable sales exceeding $100m in 2005. With the market for secure email expected to be worth $811m by 2008 [IDC], we're even more ambitious for Identum."
Purdham described email encryption as the final frontier in internet security. "Email encryption is mandatory for anyone who wants to use email safely without fear of identity theft, IP theft or infringement of compliance regulations. However, email encryption for everyone wasn't delivered in an acceptable form until Identum released its Private Post range. With great products, IP and people, Identum has all the ingredients to become a key technology player in this significant market."
Private Post is unlike anything that has gone before. It easily allows anyone with an email address to send private email to anyone else with an email address, has zero infrastructure cost, and is implemented in minutes by an untrained user.
