Sun Ray Server Software Recognized for Design and Innovation
SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 4 - Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced that Sun Ray (TM) Software has won Network Computing's 12th Annual Well-Connected Award for Best Design, Innovation, or Enhancement in the Network Infrastructure category. Sun Ray Software delivers a full virtual desktop to Sun Ray clients, helping to secure desktops from data theft and viruses while offering multi-platform support for the Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System (OS), Linux, and Windows environments.
Network Computing recognized Sun Ray Server Software 3.1 for its "great design, smooth integration and exceptional enhancement" using a server-based computing architecture with Sun Ray clients. Sun Ray clients process only keyboard input and screen output, leaving application processing and storage to the server. The simple "plug and work" Sun Ray clients are zero administration devices -- always on, readily accessed, and easily replaced. In April, 2006 Sun announced the next-generation Sun Ray 2 client and Sun Ray 2 FS client, which also work with Sun Ray Server Software. The recently announced Sun Ray Software 4, available today, incorporates Sun Ray Server Software as well as a Sun-developed Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) client to provide secure, networked access in the Microsoft Windows environment to entire sessions running on the server.
Network Computing's Well-Connected awards are the only industry awards given by technologists based on real-world use and integration. The products selected in the Well-Connected Awards have been tested in an actual business environment and judged by editors.
