WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 -The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a contract to National Hotline Services, Inc. (NHS), of Fredericksburg, Virginia, to establish and operate a nationwide compliance hotline for its Office of the Inspector General (OIG).

Callers will be able to make anonymous reports 24 hours a day of suspected fraud, waste, abuse or mismanagement in U.S. DOT programs or operations by employees, contractors or the general public.

DOT is comprised of the Office of the Secretary and 11 operating administrations: Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Transit Administration, Maritime Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Research and Special Programs Administration, Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, Bureau of Transportation Statistics and the Surface Transportation Board.

Founded in 1992 by Richard P. Kusserow, former Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), NHS provides around-the- clock hotline services for over 700 clients with three million employees.

Establishment of the DOT OIG Hotline results from the Inspector General Act of 1978 (Public Law 95-452), as amended, which provides the authority for the DOT OIG to conduct, pursuant to federal criminal statutes, investigations of allegations that a person or entity has engaged in fraudulent or other criminal activity relating to DOT activities. As part of fulfilling this function, the OIG maintains a hotline to facilitate the reporting of suspected compliance violations.

"It is a great pleasure for me to manage another government hotline as I did for 11 years as Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services," said NHS president, Richard P. Kusserow.

NHS's hotline services are available to government agencies at a discount through the GSA Schedule process.

National Hotline Services, Inc. is a leading provider of telephone and Internet-based hotline solutions. NHS has been assisting clients to meet regulatory, legal and corporate objectives through customized fraud, ethics, human resources and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance hotlines since 1992.
