NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 13 // -- Kung Fu -- it's not something normally associated with a legal practice. But to Dan Anderson of Keystone Law Offices, the connections are seamless.

As the father of a special needs child and as an attorney, Anderson has become an expert in a newly forming area of law called Special Needs Planning. Currently classified as part of Elder Law, Anderson is part of a movement to establish Special Needs Planning as its own legal specialty. His personal familiarity and advocacy efforts have made Anderson one of the most knowledgeable attorneys in this field.

But that's only one side of Dan Anderson.

He is also one of only three certified Wing Chun Kung Fu instructors in California. Wing Chun is a defensive martial arts discipline based on logical, simple movements. And in a discipline where training lineage is highly prized, Anderson learns from the best. He trains with Senior Master Ron Heimberger, a contributor to the March/April Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine, who is a disciple of Grandmaster Ip Ching, son of Grandmaster Ip Man, the famous instructor of Bruce Lee.

Anderson recognizes that the physical and mental skills he practices through Wing Chun can be especially useful to families of developmentally disabled individuals. Through his family's experience, he knows the unintended dangers posed by a developmentally disabled child.

"Many developmentally disabled people are prone to physical outbursts and caregivers are unintentionally injured," says Anderson. "Wing Chun is an excellent way for caregivers to redirect the blows from unexpected or sporadic physical movements without causing pain or injury."

Anderson is co-developing a series of workshops and seminars for caregivers with the Defense for Life Foundation that is affiliated with the Wing Chun Kung Fu Council.

"It's so important for parents and caregivers to have a comprehensive Special Needs Plan," says Anderson. "That includes legal planning, physical conditioning and mental strengthening."

Anderson's practice, Keystone Law Offices, offers comprehensive services for the families of disabled individuals. Their services include wills, trusts, health care directives (living wills), powers of attorney, foundations and other services necessary to compose an effective plan.
