Citibank Korea CEO YK Ha leads by Example in Promoting Financial Education

Seoul – As part of Citibank's efforts to promote financial education in Korea, Citibank CEO Yung-ku Ha led by example when he returned to his old school yesterday, Choong Ang Middle School to present a financial management lecture to 500 students.

During his presentation, Mr. Ha spoke about good money management practices and the importance of setting goals and objectives for the future.

"Although you can’t buy your dreams with money, you do need a certain amount of money if you want to accomplish your dreams," said Mr. Ha.

He added, "It's also important for you all to know the value of money before you make spending decisions, and the better you manage money, the better off you will be. But while money is a valuable thing, never forget you are more valuable than money.”

Mr. Ha also cited Microsoft chairman, Bill Gates and Berkshire Hathaway's chairman, Warren Buffett as good business and investment role models.

"Mr. Gates and Mr. Buffett are men who have proven themselves to be the best in their respective fields of business. As well, they are experts in investing and money management and today, are also leading the way in philanthropy."

The special lecture was arranged as a part of “Learning & Experiencing Financial Education Class for Youth – Think Money,” a joint program for middle school students nationwide between Citibank Korea and YWCA Korea.

As well as employee volunteer support Citibank Korea has invested USD 400,000 (funded by a Citigroup Foundation grant) to promote this program this year.

Mr. Ha said, "We believe it is important that Citibank Korea employees get involved as financial education teachers and help spread good money management habits to the young. The 'Think Money' program will play a part in this."
