Dell Launches Fastest Inspiron 3000 Notebook PC for $3,299
Prices Drop by $300 On Existing SystemsRound Rock, Texas, January 13, 1998Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today introduced the most powerful model of its award-winning Dell* Inspiron* 3000 notebook products. The system, priced from $3,299, includes Intel's new 266 MHz Pentium* processor with MMX* technology and a large 13.3-inch active-matrix screen. Intel's new processor is expected to improve the performance of notebook PCs between seven and 10 percent.
This week Dell will begin shipping its latest Inspiron notebook PC, which is designed for small businesses and individual users who require high performance computer systems at aggressive prices.
The Inspiron 3000 M266XT is priced at $3,299 in the U.S. with a 266 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 32 megabytes (MB) of synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM), a 2.1 gigabyte (GB) hard drive, a 20X variable speed* CD-ROM drive, a 13.3-inch XGA active-matrix display, Microsoft* Office 97 Small Business Edition and a one-year limited warranty.
Dell today also announced price reductions on existing models in its Inspiron 3000 notebook PC line. An Inspiron 3000 notebook system with a 233 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology and a 13.3-inch XGA active-matrix display was reduced nine percent from $3,399 and is now priced at $3,099 in the U.S. A system with a 200 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology and a 12.1-inch SVGA active-matrix display was reduced seven percent from $2,799 to $2,599 in the U.S.
"As notebook PC component prices continue to fall, especially for large active-matrix displays, Dell's short inventory cycle allows us to quickly adjust prices. Today Dell also introduced a new 56K* capable modem, priced at $229 in the U.S., which incorporates K56 flex technology, a protocol that enables the modem to decode information at 56 kilobits per second. This new modem is integrated signal digital network (ISDN) upgradeable to allow notebook PCs to be connected to ISDN lines for high-speed access to the Internet and electronic mail. Customers can also upgrade the modem so they can connect their notebook PC to a cellular phone to easily access a phone line while they are on the road.
