MAPLE GROVE, Minn., Jan. 10 // -- The State of South Carolina has selected Data Recognition Corporation (DRC) to develop and implement a comprehensive feasibility study on converting the state's educational assessment programs to a computer-based or computer-adaptive format.
"DRC was awarded this feasibility study for several reasons. We have a proven history of collaboration with the South Carolina Department of Education and South Carolina educators, so our knowledge of the current South Carolina testing program is extensive," said Susan Engeleiter, DRC's Chief Executive Officer and President. "Additionally, DRC is an innovative leader in the design, management and reporting of web-based user surveys, which are a critical component of this study."
DRC has a rapidly growing and respected book of business in online testing, including computer-administered assessments for the states of Idaho, Oklahoma, and Alaska. DRC has an exclusive partnership with Computerized Assessments and Learning (CAL) and Dr. John Poggio, professor of educational psychology and research at the University of Kansas, co-founder of CAL.
The South Carolina feasibility study consists of a statewide survey of schools and districts to determine their capacity to administer computer-based assessments and the associated costs. The study also includes an analyses of scholarly studies conducted to ascertain the comparability between computer- administered and paper-and-pencil assessments, input from user focus groups, and the subsequent analyses of these results. Work on the study begins during January of 2007 and will conclude in June 2007 with a formal presentation to the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee.
South Carolina's current statewide testing programs are administered in eighty-five traditional school districts with approximately 1132 schools and 22 adult education centers.
