Eleven Florida Nonprofit Organizations to Receive Grants Totaling Nearly $1 Million From The Blue Foundation

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 25 // -- The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida, the philanthropic affiliate of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSF), has approved $951,486 in grants to be awarded this winter to 11 nonprofit Florida organizations successfully addressing health care needs in their communities.

    "The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida is dedicated to improving access to quality health-related services for Floridians who are uninsured or underserved," said Susan Towler, executive director of The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida. "These 11 organizations offer innovative and effective solutions designed to address critical health issues in their local communities."
Recipients, grant totals and program areas funded are:

    -- Helping Hands Clinic -- $99,000 -- additional clinic site, part-time

     administrator and expanded services to women in Gainesville.

    -- The Way Free Medical Clinic -- $75,000 -- additional services for the

     women's wellness program in Green Cove Springs.

    -- Florida Institute for Community Studies, Inc. -- $100,000 -- services

     to rural, senior Latino diabetic patients in Tampa.

    -- Grove House Supportive Services -- $64,000 -- part-time mental health

     coordinator in Jacksonville.

    -- The H.O.P.E Project Corporation -- $75,000 -- expanded program

     capacity for mobile mammography unit in Palm Beach and Martin counties.

    -- Kristi House -- $93,835 -- satellite office for services for child

     victims of sexual abuse in Miami-Dade County.

    -- The Center for Drug-Free Living, Inc. -- $100,000 -- consortium for

     hepatitis prevention and treatment services in Central Florida.

    -- The Health Council of East Central Florida -- $50,000 -- to facilitate

     treatment and establish a medical home for low-income Seminole County

     residents.

    -- Neighborhood Health Services -- $100,000 -- part-time ARNP, medical

     supplies, training materials and prescriptions for mental health

     program in Tallahassee.

    -- Children's Volunteer Health Network -- $95,651 -- mobile dental unit

     and outreach in Walton County.

    -- DLC Nurse and Learn, Inc. -- $99,000 -- therapy to children with severe

     disabilities and medically complex conditions in Jacksonville.

    The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida awards grants during two grant cycles per year. With the completion of the 2007 winter grant cycle, The Blue Foundation will have awarded 144 grants totaling more than $8.3 million since its founding in 2001.
