Piedmont Natural Gas Receives Ethics in Business Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 27 /-/ -- At its annual Ethics in Business Award Ceremonies on April 26, 2007, the Charlotte Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals awarded Piedmont Natural Gas (NYSE: PNY) with its 2007 Ethics in Business Award in the large business category. Past recipients of this award include General Dynamics Armament & Technical Products, National Gypsum, Duke Energy and Belk, Inc.

    During the awards ceremony, at which Attorney General Roy Cooper delivered the keynote address, Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory proclaimed April 26 as Charlotte Ethics in Business Day.

    Businesses nominated for the Ethics and Business Award complete an extensive application process providing detailed documentation and support. Entries are then evaluated by an independent panel of judges composed of individuals with an expertise in business ethics and are drawn from the business, academic, public, media and consulting communities. Nominees are judged in nine areas including clear demonstration of the company's executive commitment to ethics as demonstrated by speeches and other correspondence and clear communication of the company's ethical standards, corporate culture in company publications, employee handbooks and a narrative description of business ethics in action as demonstrated by the company's response to a specific challenge affecting its operations.

    The mission of the Charlotte Ethics in Business Award is to recognize area businesses that have exemplified and promoted ethical conduct for the benefit of the workplace, the marketplace, the environment and the community. The Charlotte award is sponsored in partnership with Community Partners Duke Energy, Better Business Bureau, ClickCom.com, Fairway Forms & Supply, Inc., General Dynamics Armament & Technical Products, WBTV and WBT Radio; and Educational Partners Belk College Business at UNC Charlotte, Johnson C. Smith University and Queens University of Charlotte.

    Since its inception in 1928, the Society of Financial Service Professionals has championed the cause of high business ethics, professionalism and advanced continuing education. The Society has more than 200 chapters nationwide with 17,500 members.
