TrendNavigate Complements First-to-Market Suite of Optimization

     Capabilities, Enables Improved Business Profitability

BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 5 /-/ -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics solutions, announced the enhancement of its 3G network optimization portfolio with a unique software application that enables reduction of lost revenues through faster identification of service degradation and problem resolution. TrendNavigate complements the Network and Service Analyzer (NSA) protocol analysis solution for UTRAN, part of Tektronix' first-to-market suite of applications which help network operators worldwide improve troubleshooting and optimize network performance.

With this announcement, Tektronix offers customers a market-leading network optimization portfolio, which is centered around the NSA with its comprehensive set of applications for monitoring, analyzing and optimizing networks. The portfolio also includes the Unified Assurance network management suite for managing mobile networks and the RF Scout for RF interference hunting and coverage check. This robust key performance indicators-based portfolio enables network operators to efficiently address today's most critical challenge: keeping infrastructure and service delivery costs under control without compromising end-user quality of experience.

The exponential data traffic increase in current and future networks dictated by 3G services requirements, the complexity of UTRAN, and high customer expectations in terms of quality of service are all driving a significant need for an end-to-end mobile network optimization solution. Mobile operators want to gain greater performance and value from their existing networks while accommodating subscriber growth and high quality service demands. At the same time, they are tasked with increasing staff and infrastructure efficiencies. As a result, operators need a powerful optimization solution that provides network quality and coverage as traffic loads increase, reduces time spent assessing network performance, minimizes capital and operational expenditures and allows timely identification of potential sources of revenue losses.

"Optimizing 3G networks is critical to the business of today's network operators," said Arif Kareem, Vice President, Network Diagnostics, Tektronix. "This gives network operators a competitive edge in rolling out new services with quality and experience expected by their end users. TrendNavigate enhances our network optimization portfolio and is an extension of Tektronix' commitment to help customers get the most from their network investments. Tektronix' solution has the ability to seamlessly drill down to individual call levels. This ensures that service providers can improve their margins, while being focused on driving quality that is aligned with their own subscriber expectations and on deploying new technology without quality degradation."

TrendNavigate: Increasing Efficiency by Increasing Visibility

TrendNavigate is a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) trend analysis tool that features a customized dashboard, providing independent benchmarks on network performance. Operators can establish baseline values, compare benchmarks before and after network upgrades or optimization campaigns and recognize trends and changes. By analyzing trends over time, operators can identify even minor performance degradations.

TrendNavigate allows optimization and troubleshooting engineers to assess network performance at a glance, enabling aggregation of data from multiple RNCs and sessions, over days, weeks and months. The tool also provides automatic reporting and alarming, as well as critical visibility reports, including top cell and cause value reports and cartography reports that indicate and visualize the top worst cells, areas or handsets.

The tool allows seamless drill-down from user-definable dashboard KPIs to individual call analysis. This saves operators' significant time when troubleshooting potential network problems because root causes can be narrowed down to areas, cells, services, handsets and individual calls.

    About Tektronix' Network Optimization Portfolio

Tektronix offers customers a market-leading network optimization portfolio, which is built around the Network and Service Analyzer NSA, the RF Scout and the Unified Assurance components. This portfolio's flexibility and the comprehensive scope of capabilities enables network operators to efficiently address today's most critical challenge: keeping infrastructure and service delivery costs under control without compromising end user quality of experience. It covers all use cases throughout the different lifecycles of a mobile network.

The market-leading NSA provides fully automated instrument configuration for Iub, Iur, Iu-CS and Iu-PS interfaces, which greatly reduces the time required to obtain and analyze the data. Additionally, the application provides fully automated network topology discovery, enabling effective troubleshooting of live 3G networks. Supporting the industry's broadest set of KPIs, the solution provides the ability to relate breakdowns per service (e.g. voice, video, packet), per network element (e.g., cell, NodeB, RNC, SGSN, MSC), per call and per subscriber (e.g. IMSI, MSISDN) to communication protocol events in the network infrastructure. All use cases for monitoring, analyzing and optimizing a mobile radio network can be executed in a seamless drill down fashion, maximizing the efficiency of optimizing the business critical performance and cost parameters of the network.

Tektronix' industry-leading Unified Assurance network management suite provides integrated, end-to-end performance monitoring solutions for customer, service and network assurance. UA's probing systems provide key performance indicators for managing mobile networks. UA includes active test products for VoIP, voice and video, providing active troubleshooting, provisioning and automated service quality monitoring that accurately reflects the subscriber experience.

The RF Scout, the industry's first handheld, field-ready interference hunting tool, enables network performance planning and optimization teams to explore, discover, analyze and document in-channel and out-of-channel RF interference and coverage issues or other radio signal quality problems. The handheld form factor, performance and durability make measurements convenient, reliable and accurate whether inside a building or outdoors.
