Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council announces winners of the 2007 Immigrant Success (IS) Awards

GTA leaders celebrated for hiring and inspiring skilled immigrants

TORONTO, Sept. 19 - - The Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council
(TRIEC) and RBC are pleased to host the 2nd annual IS Awards to recognize
innovative employers and outstanding individuals that have demonstrated
leadership by bringing skilled immigrants into the labour market. The event
takes place at 5:00 p.m. today in downtown Toronto.
"The IS Awards are a wonderful opportunity to highlight the value of
skilled immigrants and the wealth of experience and education they bring to
the workforce," says Elizabeth McIsaac, executive director of TRIEC. "This
year's winners clearly understand the benefits of bringing diverse talent into
their workplaces."
Four organizations will be recognized for their success and promotion of
skilled immigrants in the Greater Toronto Area. Two individuals will also be
honoured for their accomplishments in promoting the career advancement of
skilled immigrants. The 2007 IS Award recipients include:

- Mid-size Employer Award: Xerox Research Centre of Canada
- Large Employer Award: Toronto and Region Conservation Authority
- Influencer Award: George Brown College
- Canadian HR Reporter Individual Achievement Award: Sischa Maharaj
- Toronto Star People's Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in
Immigrant Success: Alan Rego

A panel of senior human resource professionals judged the IS Award
submissions on their inclusive HR practices and policies.
"Our goal is to raise the bar in how employers work with and include
skilled immigrants - it's important for immigrants and it's important for our
competitiveness and prosperity as a city region," says McIsaac. "TRIEC looks
forward to honouring the 2007 IS Award winners and celebrating the future
success of other innovative and forward thinking employers."

The IS Awards are funded by the Government of Canada's Foreign Credential
Recognition Program and sponsored by RBC, with media partners Canadian HR
Reporter and The Toronto Star.

Foundation, the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) was
created to address an urgent need of the Toronto Region - effective
integration of immigrants into the labour market. Established in September
