WebMD Corporation provides services that enable physicians, consumers, providers, and health plans navigate the healthcare system.

It operates in four segments: WebMD Business Services, WebMD Practice Services, WebMD Health, and Porex.

WebMD Business Services segment provides healthcare reimbursement cycle management services, including transmission of electronic transactions between healthcare payers and physicians.

In addition, it provides automated patient billing services, such as statement printing and mailing services, as well as paid-claims communication services, including print-and-mail services for the distribution of checks, remittance advice, and explanations of benefits.

WebMD Practice Services segment develops and markets integrated physician practice management systems, such as administrative, financial, and clinical applications and services.

WebMD Health segment provides online healthcare information, educational services, and other resources for consumers and healthcare professionals to check symptoms, assess risks, understand diseases and conditions, evaluate treatment options, find healthcare providers, communicate with peers about healthcare issues, and improve their personal health status.

WebMD offers its services to pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, health plans, and other healthcare and consumer companies.

Porex segment develops, manufactures, and distributes porous plastic products and components used in healthcare, industrial, and consumer applications, as well as in finished products used in the medical device and surgical markets.

The company was incorporated as Healtheon Corporation in 1995 and changed its name to Healtheon/WebMD Corporation in 1999.

Further, it changed its name to WebMD Corporation in 2000.
